Deployment and Objective
The 3D-printed artificial reef modules will be deployed approximately two nautical miles offshore along the Ramanathapuram coast. The project will function as a pilot initiative to evaluate the effectiveness of six innovative reef designs developed using advanced 3D-printing technology for restoring degraded marine ecosystems.
Development
The reef modules have been developed by Tvasta, an IIT Madras-incubated startup, in collaboration with the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of the ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). Each module weighs nearly one tonne and has been specifically designed to improve marine biodiversity.

Unlike conventional reinforced concrete reefs, the new modules incorporate complex geometries with multiple crevices, folds, and attachment surfaces, creating suitable habitats for a wide variety of marine organisms.

Ultra-Processed Foods (UPFs) are industrial formulations manufactured using refined ingredients, additives, preservatives, flavour enhancers, emulsifiers, and artificial sweeteners.
These foods generally contain high levels of sugar, salt, unhealthy fats, and refined carbohydrates, while providing little nutritional value.
Unlike minimally processed foods, UPFs undergo multiple industrial processing stages that alter their natural composition and extend shelf life. Common examples include chips, instant noodles, packaged biscuits, breakfast cereals, chocolates, soft drinks, sugary beverages, processed meat products, and packaged snacks.
What are HFSS Foods?
High Fat, Sugar and Sodium (HFSS) foods are products containing excessive quantities of saturated fats, trans fats, sugar, or salt, making them nutritionally unhealthy when consumed frequently.
HFSS products contribute significantly to obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and metabolic disorders, particularly among children and adolescents.

Reports indicate that over two lakh junk-food advertisements were aired in a single month with advertising expenditure of nearly ₹170 crore, highlighting the scale of commercial promotion.
Influence on Children
Children are especially vulnerable to persuasive advertising because they lack the ability to critically evaluate marketing messages.
Continuous exposure through television, social media, online gaming platforms, sports events, schools, and digital influencers normalises unhealthy eating habits from an early age. These behaviours frequently continue into adulthood, increasing the lifetime risk of chronic diseases.
Health Risks Associated with UPFs

Growing scientific evidence shows that increased consumption of UPFs reduces the intake of traditional and minimally processed foods while significantly increasing health risks.

Greater coordination among the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, FSSAI, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, educational institutions, and digital platforms will be essential to create a healthier food environment.
