The Central Government has launched the Nirbhay Chetna Initiative to sensitise over 17.5 lakh elected male representatives across the country and strengthen gender-responsive governance at the grassroots level.

About Nirbhay Chetna Initiative

The Nirbhay Chetna Initiative is a key intervention under the Nirbhay Raho Initiative. It is the first national programme of its kind implemented under the Nirbhaya Fund to promote gender sensitisation, women's safety, and community leadership through Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).

Nodal Ministry

The initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

Objective

The initiative aims to build awareness, accountability, and leadership among elected male representatives to promote gender equality, women's safety and security, and inclusive governance at the grassroots level.


 

Components of the Nirbhay Raho Initiative

Nirbhay Chetna

Nirbhay Chetna focuses on sensitising elected male representatives regarding gender equality, women's rights, and women's safety. Under the initiative, a cadre of 28,500 Master Trainers is being created at the State, district, and block levels to train more than 17.5 lakh elected male representatives across India.

Nirbhay Netri

Nirbhay Netri aims to strengthen the capacity-building and legal awareness of elected women representatives, enabling them to participate more effectively in local governance.

Nirbhay Drishti

Nirbhay Drishti seeks to improve technology-enabled safety infrastructure by installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations in Gram Panchayats to enhance the safety and security of rural communities.
