Recently, the Union Home Minister launched the Abhigyan App in New Delhi to strengthen technology-driven policing and improve access to crime-related data.

About Abhigyan App

The Abhigyan App is a centralised mobile platform developed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). It enables field police personnel to access criminal records and identify suspects quickly using their smartphones.

Key Features

The application provides secure access to a vast repository of criminal records through two-step authentication. It is integrated with the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), enabling real-time fingerprint identification within about 35 seconds. The app is designed to offer fast identification, portability, and access to millions of fingerprint records, thereby improving field investigations.

Significance

The Abhigyan App enhances digital policing, strengthens crime investigation, improves inter-state coordination, and supports evidence-based law enforcement by providing instant access to verified criminal information.
