Nationality Eligibility Criteria for UPSC - IAS Exam

(a)    A candidate must be an Indian Citizen to appear in the UPSC Indian Administrative Service(IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service
(b)    (IPS), 
(c)    For appearing in other civil services conducted by UPSC, an aspirant must be either: 
a.    an Indian citizen, or
b.    a national of Nepal, or 
c.    a national of Bhutan, or 
d.    a Tibetan refugee to permanently settle in India who migrated to India before 1st  January 1962, or 
e.    A person of Indian origin to permanently settle in India
f.     who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, East African countries of Zambia, Malawi, Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam and Sri Lanka 
(d)    The Government of India shall have issued a certificate of eligibility for such a person.
(e)    UPSC may admit a candidate, in whose case a certificate of eligibility is mandatory for the examination. UPSC may offer the appointment only after the Government of India issues the necessary eligibility certificate has been given to them.
