1. Gulf of Mexico

  • Location: Bordered by the United States, Mexico, and Cuba.

  • Connections: Connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the Straits of Florida and to the Caribbean Sea through the Yucatán Channel.

2. Gulf of Oman

  • Location: Connects the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Borders: Bordered by Pakistan and Iran to the north, Oman to the south, and the United Arab Emirates to the west.
  • Environmental Concern: In 2018, it was reported to contain one of the world's largest marine dead zones, where oxygen levels are so low that marine life cannot survive.

  • Location: Situated between Yemen and Somalia in the Arabian Sea.

  • Significance: A key shipping route that is part of the Suez Canal transit to the Mediterranean Sea.

4. Persian Gulf

  • Location: Bordered by Iran to the north and the Arabian Peninsula to the south.
  • Connections: An extension of the Indian Ocean via the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Countries: Includes coastline from Iran, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq (clockwise from the north).
  • Significance: Crucial for global oil transportation, with numerous oil fields and rich marine ecosystems.

  • Location: An arm of the Baltic Sea situated between Sweden and Finland.
  • Features: The northernmost part of the Baltic Sea; it receives freshwater from several rivers.
  • Salinity: Salinity levels vary, with low salinity in the northern Bothnian Bay compared to the southern parts.
  • Significance: Important for shipping and fishing industries in the region.

6. Gulf of Mannar

  • Location: Lies between the southeastern tip of India and the west coast of Sri Lanka.
  • Characteristics: A shallow bay forming part of the Laccadive Sea in the Indian Ocean.
  • Landmarks: Adam’s Bridge (Ramsethu), which includes Mannar Island, separates it from Palk Bay to the north.
  • Significance: Rich in biodiversity, including coral reefs and marine life; important for fishing and tourism.

7. Gulf of Alaska

  • Location: An arm of the Pacific Ocean along the southern coast of Alaska.
  • Shoreline: Characterized by rugged coastlines with forests, mountains, and tidewater glaciers.
  • Climate: The presence of the North Pacific Current keeps the Gulf ice-free year-round.
  • Significance: Critical for fisheries and marine wildlife habitats, as well as tourism.

  • Location: An arm of the Andaman Sea in southern Burma (Myanmar).
  • Rivers: The Sittaung, Salween, and Yangon rivers flow into it.

9. Gulf of Aqaba (Gulf of Eilat)

  • Location: Located at the northern tip of the Red Sea, between the Sinai Peninsula and the Arabian mainland.
