About Kheybar Shekan Missile
The Kheybar Shekan missile is Iran’s latest long-range ballistic missile that uses solid fuel. It is considered the fourth generation of the Khorramshahr missile family. The name “Kheybar Shekan” means “breaker of Khayber” and refers to the historical Battle of Khaybar.
Features of Kheybar Shekan Missile
Physical Characteristics
The missile is approximately 4 meters in length and weighs around 1,500 kilograms. Its compact design improves mobility and operational efficiency.
Range and Capability
The missile has a strike range of about 1,450 kilometers. This allows it to target distant locations with considerable accuracy.
Propulsion System
The missile is powered by a locally developed ‘Arond’ engine, which is integrated within its fuel tank. This design reduces the overall size of the missile and enhances its ability to remain concealed.
Use of Solid Fuel
The use of solid fuel provides several advantages, including faster launch preparation, easier storage, and improved concealment. This makes the missile more efficient and suitable for modern warfare conditions.
Launch Capability
The Kheybar Shekan missile can be launched from mobile platforms and can be prepared for launch in less than 15 minutes. This mobility increases its survivability and operational flexibility.
Guidance and Accuracy
The missile is equipped with a satellite guidance system and a maneuverable warhead. These features enable it to strike targets with high precision and improve its ability to evade interception.
Flight Mechanism
The missile operates in three phases. It begins with the takeoff phase, followed by mid-flight guidance using rear engines, and finally enters a descent phase guided by precision engines to accurately hit the target.
Speed and Evasion
The missile can reach speeds of approximately 19,500 km/h within the atmosphere and about 9,800 km/h outside it, which is around Mach 12. Due to its high speed and aerodynamic design, it is difficult for advanced air defence systems to intercept and detect.
