ISRO has successfully launched the Earth Observation Satellite (EOS-08) as part of the SSLV-D3 mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Objectives of EOS-08 Mission

  • Designing and Developing a Microsatellite: Focus on creating a smaller, efficient satellite.
  • Creating Payload Instruments: Ensure compatibility with the microsatellite bus.
  • Incorporating New Technologies: Test and develop technologies for future operational satellites.

Payloads of EOS-08 Mission

  • Electro Optical Infrared (EOIR) Payload:
  • Purpose: Capture images in the Mid-Wave and Long Wave Infrared bands.
  • Applications: Disaster monitoring, environmental monitoring, and more.
  • Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry (GNSS-R) Payload:
  • Purpose: Utilize remote sensing to measure ocean winds, soil moisture, and monitor the Himalayan cryosphere.
  • SiC UV Dosimeter:
  • Purpose: Monitor UV irradiance at the Gaganyaan mission's crew module viewport. Acts as a high-dose alarm sensor for astronaut safety.
