Recently, the Government of India launched the National AI Skilling Initiative to enhance artificial intelligence capabilities in the creative and media sectors. The initiative has been introduced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with Google and YouTube.
Objective of the Initiative
The National AI Skilling Initiative is designed to strengthen expertise in areas such as Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics (AVGC), and media technology. It seeks to equip professionals and students with the knowledge required to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital and AI landscape.
The programme aims to train around 15,000 participants, including creators, media professionals, developers, and students. The focus is on creating a future-ready workforce in AI-powered creative sectors.
Implementation Mechanism
The initiative is being implemented through the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, which will oversee training and execution.
Training programmes will be conducted across major cities in India, ensuring wider accessibility and participation.Institutional support ensures structured and large-scale implementation.
Phases of the Programme
The initiative will be carried out in two phases, each focusing on different levels of learning.
Phase I – Foundational Learning
In the first phase, participants will undergo basic AI training through certifications such as Google Career Certificates and Google Cloud Generative AI learning paths. Courses will include topics like AI Essentials, Prompting Essentials, and Introduction to Generative AI.
Completion of this phase is mandatory before moving to the next stage.Phase I builds a strong foundation in AI concepts and tools.
Phase II – Advanced Specialisation
The second phase focuses on advanced, hands-on, and project-based learning, specifically tailored to the creative industry. This phase will enable participants to apply AI tools in real-world scenarios such as content creation, animation, and media production.Phase II emphasises practical application and industry-specific skills.
