The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Immigration Visa Foreigners Registration and Tracking Scheme (IVFRT) for a further period of five years from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031. This decision aims to strengthen India’s immigration framework through advanced technology and improved service delivery.

About the IVFRT Scheme

The IVFRT platform is designed to integrate and streamline immigration, visa issuance, and foreigner registration processes in India through a secure and technology-driven system. Initially approved in 2010, the scheme has undergone multiple phases of expansion and upgradation over time.

The latest extension aligns with the provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, ensuring that the system remains updated with evolving legal and security requirements.

Key Features of the IVFRT Scheme

The scheme focuses on three major areas: technology innovation, infrastructure transformation, and service delivery optimisation.

First, it promotes the use of emerging technologies, including mobile-based services and self-service kiosks, to ensure seamless and secure passenger movement. Second, it aims to upgrade and expand core infrastructure across Immigration Check Posts, Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs), and data centres, thereby building a robust and scalable system across the country.

Third, it focuses on optimising service delivery by introducing unified digital platforms, revamping application architecture, and strengthening network systems to improve efficiency and user experience. The most important point is that the scheme combines digital innovation with infrastructure development to enhance immigration management.

Significance of the Scheme

The IVFRT scheme plays a crucial role in enhancing national security, improving ease of travel, and strengthening governance mechanisms related to foreign nationals. By integrating multiple services into a single digital framework, it reduces delays, enhances transparency, and ensures better monitoring. IVFRT supports both security objectives and ease of doing business and travel in India.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the continuation of the IVFRT scheme reflects the government’s commitment to building a modern, secure, and efficient immigration system. By leveraging technology and improving infrastructure, the scheme aims to meet the growing demands of international mobility
