India recently hosted the 12th Steering Committee Meeting of the GlobE Network in New Delhi. This reflects India’s growing role in global anti-corruption cooperation and enforcement mechanisms. India is actively contributing to strengthening international collaboration against corruption.

About GlobE Network

The GlobE Network is a global platform of specialised anti-corruption law enforcement authorities, designed to enhance cooperation in tackling corruption-related crimes. It was established under the Riyadh Initiative during Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency, marking a significant step toward coordinated global action.

The network operates within the framework of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, which is the primary international legal instrument to combat corruption. GlobE Network serves as an operational extension of global anti-corruption commitments under UNCAC.

Membership and Composition

The GlobE Network includes 135 member countries and 250 law enforcement authorities, along with 18 observers such as Europol, World Bank, and the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.

From India, the Ministry of Home Affairs acts as the central authority, while agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate are member authorities.

the network brings together key global and national agencies to coordinate anti-corruption efforts.

Governance Structure

The GlobE Network is governed by a Steering Committee, which consists of one Chair, one Vice-Chair, and 13 members. This body provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to the network’s activities. the governance structure ensures representation and collective decision-making among member countries.

Functions of the GlobE Network

The primary function of the GlobE Network is to facilitate fast, flexible, and direct cooperation among anti-corruption agencies. It complements formal legal mechanisms such as mutual legal assistance by enabling real-time, practitioner-level engagement between authorities.

The network supports cooperation in investigation, prosecution, and recovery of proceeds of corruption, making it a practical tool for cross-border enforcement. It is supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, which serves as its secretariat.
