The Ministry of Power has launched three significant online portals aimed at enhancing the efficiency and transparency of hydropower, thermal power project monitoring, and disaster response in the power sector.

1. JAL VIDYUT DPR

  • Purpose: Strengthening the development of hydropower and pumped storage projects (PSPs) in India.
  • Key Features:
  • Centralized digital platform for monitoring survey and investigation activities.
  • Enhances efficiency and transparency in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation process.
  • Facilitates communication between developers and appraising agencies such as:
  • Central Water Commission (CWC)
  • Geological Survey of India (GSI)
  • Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS)
  • Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEF&CC).
  • Provides real-time tracking of pending tasks to expedite workflows and streamline communication.
  • Alignment: Supports government initiatives to promote ease of doing business by reducing appraisal and approval timelines for DPRs.

2. Portal for Online Monitoring of Projects – Thermal (PROMPT)

  • Purpose: To monitor thermal power projects under construction in India.
  • Key Features:
  • Developed by CEA in association with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
  • Centralized platform for real-time tracking and analysis of project execution.
  • Enhances transparency and accountability by digitizing the monitoring process.
  • Aids in timely resolution of issues, reduces time and cost overruns, and enhances project execution efficiency.
  • Supports predictable resource availability to meet electricity demand affordably, benefiting consumers.

3. Disaster Resource Inventory for Power Sector (DRIPS)

  • Context: Highlights the vulnerability of the power sector infrastructure to natural disasters, as seen with events like Cyclone Fani, floods in Jammu & Kashmir, and Kerala.
  • Purpose: To improve disaster preparedness and response strategies in the power sector.
  • Key Features:
  • Serves as a single point of contact for designated nodal officers across power sector departments and other agencies in affected regions.
  • Manages the inventory of specific power system equipment and critical supplies.
  • Enables rapid identification and deployment of necessary resources during disaster situations, ensuring prompt resolution of power disruptions.

Conclusion

These portals represent a strategic advancement in India's power sector management, aiming to improve project execution, disaster readiness, and overall operational efficiency, thereby contributing to a more resilient energy infrastructure.
