About ALH Mk-III Helicopter

The ALH Mk-III Helicopter is the maritime variant of the indigenous Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter developed in India.

It has been designed and manufactured indigenously by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, reflecting India’s growing capabilities in domestic aerospace and defence manufacturing.

The helicopter is an important example of India’s push towards self-reliance in defence production under the broader vision of indigenous defence modernisation.

Features of ALH Mk-III Helicopter

The ALH Mk-III Maritime Role helicopter is a multi-role twin-engine helicopter specifically designed to perform demanding maritime operations under diverse conditions.

It is equipped with advanced technological systems that improve operational efficiency, safety, and mission capability.

One of its major features is the integration of advanced avionics and a modern glass cockpit, which enhances navigation, operational awareness, and flight management.

The helicopter also possesses night operation capability, allowing it to conduct missions during low-visibility conditions and adverse weather situations.

These modern systems make the helicopter highly effective for coastal and offshore missions.

Because of its operational flexibility, the helicopter can support both peacetime and emergency missions.

It is particularly important for rapid response during maritime accidents, natural disasters, and coastal security threats.

Significance of ALH Mk-III for the Indian Coast Guard

The induction of the ALH Mk III greatly enhances the operational readiness of the Indian Coast Guard.

The helicopters improve the Coast Guard’s ability to monitor India’s vast coastline, conduct rescue missions, and respond quickly to maritime emergencies.

They also strengthen India’s maritime domain awareness and help protect critical sea lanes, offshore assets, and coastal regions.

The deployment of indigenously manufactured helicopters further reduces dependence on foreign defence equipment and supports the development of India’s domestic aerospace industry.
