TRAI MyCall Application

stylish_lining

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a revamped version of TRAI MyCall, a mobile application that allows telecom consumers to directly rate and report their voice-calling experience.

About TRAI MyCall

TRAI MyCall is a citizen-centric digital platform that enables consumers to provide real-time feedback on voice-call quality along with relevant network parameters.

The feedback is shared with TRAI and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) in anonymised form. This helps service providers identify network-related problems and take targeted corrective measures, thereby improving the overall Quality of Service (QoS).

The platform also supports evidence-based regulatory oversight by helping TRAI assess the Quality of Experience (QoE) from the perspective of actual consumers.

Key Features of the Revamped App

  • 1–5 Star Rating: Consumers can instantly rate their voice-call experience.

  • Issue Reporting: Users can report call drops, echo, audio delay, cross-connection, voice breaking, one-way audio and delayed call connection.

  • Automatic Feedback: Post-call prompts make it easier for consumers to submit feedback.

  • Feedback History: Users can view their ratings and feedback history through an interactive map.

  • Coverage Test: Allows users to assess signal strength.

  • Multilingual Support: The application provides multilingual services through Bhashini.

QoS vs QoE

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to the technical performance of a telecom network, such as network coverage, stability and call performance.

Quality of Experience (QoE) reflects the actual experience perceived by consumers while using telecom services. TRAI MyCall helps incorporate this consumer perspective into regulatory assessment.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)

Establishment

TRAI is the statutory regulatory authority responsible for regulating India's telecommunications sector. It was established under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, 1997.

Objectives

TRAI aims to promote the growth and development of telecommunications, create a fair and transparent environment for service providers and protect the interests of consumers.

Major Functions

TRAI:

  • Regulates tariffs for telecom services.

  • Prescribes standards for Quality of Service (QoS).

  • Regulates aspects related to mobile number portability and DTH services.

  • Makes recommendations regarding licences and permissions.

  • Protects consumers against unfair and deceptive practices.

  • Monitors compliance with its regulations and can impose penalties for violations.

Composition

TRAI consists of:

  • One Chairperson

  • Up to two full-time members

  • Two part-time members

Members are appointed by the Central Government and normally serve for three years or until the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

TDSAT

The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) was established through an amendment to the TRAI Act.

TDSAT handles adjudicatory and dispute-resolution functions that were earlier performed by TRAI. It deals with disputes involving licensors, licensees, service providers and consumer groups, and hears appeals against directions, decisions and orders of TRAI.
